Our word counter uses the same basic algorithm as Google Docs (counting sequences of characters separated by spaces). For most texts, the count will be identical. However, for edge cases like hyphenated words or special characters, there might be minor differences. Always use Google Docs for final verification if that’s your submission platform.
In our tool: Highlight text in the textarea and the word count will automatically update to show only the selected text’s count.
In Google Docs: Highlight text and use Ctrl+Shift+C (or Tools → Word count) to see the count for just that selection.
